Ruan Yuan is a representative scholar of Qing Dynasty,who hadextremely high attainments on chorography, literature, science, technology,education and other fields,and had quite a few academic writings in his life.This paper has discussed the culture of appraising, elegance and theirfar-reaching impact on artists in calligraphy and painting based on the draft ofthe little-known The Recording of Marble Paintings by Ruan Yuan and relevanthistorical documents.
