Expression Of Time Painting

This article is aimed at the study of time issues of painting, by reference to the way which poems use. Paintings are supposed to be static, while there are various ways for us to express time by painting works:the accumulation of the progress of painting; the time quantum or a certain moment which the works show; the divergence or jump of time; or the historicity of work and so on. It has similar ways of expression of time with poems, which has a jump and continuos expression.The first part of this article discusses several types of time expression in paintings:the expression of a certain moment; the expression of time quantum; and the abstract concept of time. Then we discuss the similarity and difference between painting works and poems on the expression of time, by comparing expression of paintings with several ways which poems use.The second part discusses the relationship among paintings,poems and time, by explaining the great effect which memory has on paintings and poems, and relationship between memory and time:memories are scattered in parallel on the aspect of time, painting and poems have a narrative expression on time, and the expression of paintings and poems are closely connected with memories. Examples of poets paintings and painters’ poems are showed at the end of part two.The third part discusses possible ways that paintings might use to express time, in a parallel time line or a narrative way, the misunderstandings this subtraction of time might bring, and the influence this might have on the comprehension of audience.
