As an accepted great writer during the period of Northern Song Dynasty, SuShi’s thoughts and literary achievements have experienced a process of gradualchange. He held the secretary-general of Feng Xiang Office in Qin Feng Province forthree years.Although time is short, it’s very important in his life.In terms of his thoughts’ development, the political officer thoroughly changedhis life. Firstly, he had more opportunities to contact the common people’s difficultlives, which helped him to form a kind of thought called “Tong Ran”. Meanwhile, ashe was far away from his hometown, when he was treated differently in all pastoccupations, he felt that all things in the world was constantly changing. Moreover, inhis early years, he used to read books of Buddhism and Taoism, in which he addedinto his mind. And Buddhism and Taoism in his brain were blended with each other. These characteristics of the ideas are reflected in Su Shi’s entire life. And theexperience in Fengxiang is exactly the source of them.As Su Shi just composes one Ci in Fengxiang, his literary achievements mainlyperforms in the aspect of poetry and prose. Many of his compositions about intoningthe places of historic interest break through the weakness of over-reliance on thebooks as well as more comment than emotion. He begins to combine original thoughtswith personal-felt situation, which brings out the best in theoretical characteristics andliterary meaning. Besides, the compositions about the questions and answers betweenbrothers or friends also demonstrate that emotional expression and image descriptioncan be connected with each other. They are the characteristics of the successful poemsor proses during Su Shi’s Fengxiang time. However, there are also some compositionswhich are rough, pure reasoning, and lack of appealing at that time. The commonfault of them is that they haven’t realized the combination of emotion and scenery.
