With the growing political and economic influence of China in the process of globalization, more and more people in the world started to pay attention to this country. Meanwhile more and more people in the world expect to understand China and its splendid culture. As a world language, Chinese also began to catch lots of attention. Many foreigners began to learn the Chinese language in a variety of different ways. Because of this, teaching Chinese as a foreign language at home and abroad is also showing a flourishing state. Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, however, at this stage, is still an emerging discipline. There are still many issues which need to be addressed. The main teaching model of the primary stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in China is the sub-skills teaching, while the primary stage of teaching Chinese in the North American countries is mainly using controlled drills teaching mode. This article introduces this two teaching mode briefly, which is based on a comparative analysis, and found that the characteristics and shortcomings of both teaching modes, so as to achieve the complementary advantages, which could jointly promote the initial stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language at home and abroad respectively.This paper is divided into five chapters:The foreword illustrates the meaning of this topic, and determines the main content of this paper to be the comparative analysis of the mode of teaching Chinese as a foreign language at home and abroad.The second chapter focuses on the analysis of primary stage of teaching Chinese as a foreign language in China with sub-skills teaching mode, and describes the teaching methods and the development of the Chinese teaching in China, meanwhile to illustrate the achievement of this teaching mode in China.The third chapter is taking the MIB project control drills teaching mode as an example to study the primary stage of Chinese teaching in foreign countries, and analyzes the background of the development of this teaching mode, the theoretical basis and teaching highlights. After that, the author explains the advantages of such a teaching mode through the analysis of these three areas. In the fourth chapter, the author compares the sub-skills teaching mode which is widespread in teaching Chinese as a foreign language within China with the MIB controlled drill method during the primary teaching stage. And the author analyzes the similarities and differences of these two teaching modes from the constitution of teachers and students, the learning purpose, teaching methods, evaluation and testing, in order to learn from each other and make a progress together.The author concludes the view of this paper and illustrates the good wishes to the development of TCFL in China.
