Tibetan Buddhism has a far-reaching implication on ethnic affairs of the QingDynasty. Qianlong was the best Emperor who had utilized Tibetan Buddhism mosteffectively and researched the Buddhism deepest and believed it most sincerely ofQing Dynasty. Emperor Qianlong constructed the temples extensively, translated theSutra thoroughly and manufactured the Buddhist instruments widely. EspeciallyEmperor Qianlong had analyzed himself as the embodiment of Manjushree. It has theprofoundly political and spiritual significance for Emperor Qianlong to depict himselfas a Manjusri Bodhisattva.Analyzing the Thangka must apply the following two points. Firstly, It isnecessary to Summarize and generalize the characteristics and symbol of ManjusriBodhisattva in Tibetan Buddhism. Secondly, It is important to clarify EmperorQianlong’s the inheritance and preferences to dress up to various identities. These twopoints can pave the way to Confirm the center person in such Thangka image is theManjusri Bodhisattva acted by Emperor Qianlong. The article also describes the styleand drawing rituals to make the Emperor Qianlong’s portraits as ManjusriBodhisattva.This paper aims at investigating the reason for Emperor Qianlong’s portraits asManjusri Bodhisattva by analyzing the images. We can summarize the two main deepmeaning behind the image. On the one hand, Qianlong utilized the religion as apolitical tool to handle Tibetan Affairs in the gentle way. On the other hand, ThroughQianlong’s action about religion we can generalize the real attitude and emotion thatQianlong had to Tibetan Buddhism.
