Debussy, Ravel Piano Works Embodied In Different Spanish Style

Due to the same social background and art trend, having same preferences on creation, Debussy and Ravel, the two prominent French impressionist composers of the20th century, had certain similarities in their music works. Especially for the use of allopatric elements, two composers often show preference to this technique in their works.Impacted by many kinds of outcoming factors, Spain, which stands in the southwest of Europe, gets diversity as the main charactoristic of its culture. Therefore, this culture keeps special attraction and charming mistery for those artists in their creation process, and so does to Debussy and Ravel.Analysed in this article, La soiree dans Grenade and Alborada Del Gracioso, which were completed in1903and1905, both use the traditional music elements and send out strong Spanish sense. The two works were both accomplished in the matural period and had representativeness. The key point of this article is that, the Spanish style in both works have different embodiment due to the characteristic of their creation, even if Debussy and Ravel used the same Spanish elements.This article wiil discuss this point from four aspects:firstly, giving a brief introduction of the factors which influence the composers and their own creation characteristics; secondly, giving a brief introduction of the music style of Spain, and discussing the expression of Spanish musical elements in La soiree dans Grenade and Alborada Del Gracioso; thirdly, focusing on the different expression of Spanish style in the two works in details, including the use of music image, music structure, dance rhythm, national melody, harmony, imitation of national instruments and so on; at last, deducing the grasp of the differences between two works from the perspective of a performer.This article aims at seizing the differences from similar factors and definites the personalitis of the two composers in their creation process, so that I will be able to deduce the works of the two composers more precisely in the future.
