| Religion, being a cultural form, its functions are mainly displayed by its believers through daily life and festivals. With the methodologies of field work survey and literature review, this paper looks into ’Le si’ and among which, the culti-religions and social-cultural functions.’Le si’ is generally named for Tibetan New Year and Spring Festival, it is addressed ’Adalesi’ as well(Lama’s festival). Its participants includes not only Tibetans, but also other minorities, e.g., Naxi, Lisu, Bai and Han Chinese. In terms of the identity of the participants, there are common mass and lamas in the monastery who believe in Tibetan Buddhism and those who don’t believe it.Tibetan Buddhism and Ben culture are manifested in a variety of ’Lesi’ rituals which incarnates the blend of the culture of Han Chinese and Tibetan. During ’Lesi’, praying by going around sacred mountains, practicing ’Songze’ ritual, collecting water are categorized as Ben, the Tibetan primitive religion, allowing the heritance and protection of its culture by a series of ritual processes; While, setting shrine at living room, burning incenses, chanting scriptures, lighting butter lamps, putting up flags with scriptures and dharma assembly are elements of Tibetan Buddhism. Sacrificing pig’s head, placing ancestral shrine, hanging Chunlian, visiting a grave to memorize the dead are influenced by Han Chinese culture, however, Tibetan people don’t completely intake Han Culture, but integrate both Han and Tibetan culture.People live harmoniously in Dukezong Ancient Town, despite of their different ethnicity and religion beliefs. Other minorities don’t reject Tibetan Buddhism on the basis of maintaining their own religion, even the local Naxi, Han, Lisu and Bai ethnic absorbed the good rule(respect teachers and seniors) to arrange their daily life and festivals. Thus, the various minorities in Dukezhong ancient town has formed the big family blending with small family. The unique cultural phenomena of a particular region like Dukezong caters to religion appeals of different groups. Little by little, this area come into the field of co-existence of multi-religion and culture, serving to the identification and cohesion of nationalities, living harmonious with each other, this is also the development strategy of getting along with each other advocated by Chinese Communist party and government. |
