Classical Sanskrit drama is unique in the world of drama art, where Shakuntala, by the world renowned India poet Kali Tuo Sha, is the representative work. Kali Tuo Sha is not only the most outstanding poets during Sanskrit Classical Literature Era, but also is a great play writer unprecedented and unrepeatable in the history of Sanskrit literature. Shah Konedaro, due to its huge ideological and artistic achievement, not only is the peak of India ancient drama, but most importantly is a bright pearl in the realm of the world’s dramatic art. The work Shakuntala was first translated into Tibetan by Gengdunqunpei. Geratudence Da mentioned in his work of "Kali Tuo Sha that he had seen a complete translation of Shakuntala by Ge Dun Qu Pel. But so far only the first act remains. In2009, Mr. Ao Jian, according to Ji Xianlin’s version, translated the full script into Tibetan.This paper, based on Mr. Ao Jian’s version, is intended to study the literature value and artistic achievement of Shakuntala in three chapters. The first chapter introduces the work itself and its author. In the second chapter, further study is made on the definition, concept and classification of drama, as well as on the history of development of Indian-Tibetan drama. The third chapter investigates the Shakuntala’s literature value and the author’s intention by analyzing the play with the application of the five theories. |
