Theoretical Study Character Structure Reich

Psychological Marxism is a genre that tries to combine Freudian psychoanalysis with Marxism among the trend of the thought of the western Marxism in the20th century. Wilhelm Reich is a famous western psychoanalysts and sociologist, representative figure of Freudian Marxism, and his theory aims to achieve a combination of Marxism and Freudianism:on the one hand, it aims to supplement and amend Freudianism with Marxism; on the other hand, it puts the content of the psychoanalytic theory into Marxism, in order to achieve the innovation and modernization of Marxism.The research for Reich’s theory about the character structure is the core of this thesis. Firstly, the background of Reich’s theory about the character structure is analyzed in the thesis, including his special growing experience, era background and the practice of psychoanalysis, and this is the basis of the formation of his theory. Secondly, the theoretical formation of theory of the character structure is expounded, it points out this is not only the criticism and the inheritance of Freudian psychoanalysis, and also is the inheritance and the supplement for the Marxism, which is the theoretical combination of Freudian and Marxism. Thirdly, the basic content of the theory of the character structure is introduced. Character structure is an important concept of the psychoanalytic theory from Reich, it is the relatively stable patterns of behavior formed by the people’s reflections from outside. It is mainly confirmed the existence of the "character armour" in the theory of the character structure, namely it is the protection device of the character formed by the external pressure and threats, and it is the response for self and the external world. In the end, it makes a comment of the theory of the character structure. On the one hand, it shows the contribution for psychoanalysis and Marxism; on the other hand, it points out the theoretical defects and the insufficiency in the theory of the character structure.
