Yao Mian Studied

Yao Mian is a litterateur in the period of the southern song dynasty. In imperial court, Yao Mian denounced the secretaries, and his integrity and personality is admired by people at that time and later. Yao Mian wrote a lot of works, now fifty volumes of his collected works has survived."Song dynasty history" has no Yao Mian’s biography. It’s "yiwenzhi" also has no Yao Mian’s literary output. There are no people to pay attention to Yao Mian and his literary output. Therefore, I select Yao Mian as the research object. Although my research is shallow, but in an effort to spring out more people to research he and his works.This paper is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is about the basic situation of Yao Mian, including experience, family background, social contact, thoughts and personal charm. Yao Mian’s political thought and literary thought have the features of the "dao" as the core. His military thought emphasizes that it must build high wall, educate militia, and fulfill the responsibility. It also emphasizes that all people must work together and the army must have strict discipline.The second chapter is the research to Yao Mian’s articles. His articles are classified into argumentative writing, narration and lyric writing. Yao Mian’s argumentative essays have the biggest successes. They have very strong realistic pertinence and great momentum. Their structure and argument are all very tight. Yao Mian talk about the failure in gain and loss, make recommendations, etc, there are many insights. Mian’s narrations often mixed with lyric and argument, some are very successful in the character building. Yao Mian has a lot of lyric writings. Some of them criticize the dark reality, some express concern about the country and the people, some express his personality and moral integrity. His some lyric writing are very emotional and impressed, especially a few small Fu have more features.The third chapter is the research to the Yao Mian’s poetries. This chapter is divided into two sections. The first section is about the poetic subject matter content, and the second section is about the artistic characteristics. Yao Mian’s poetries have a rich content ranging from the dark reality, the sufferings of the people’s livelihood, the landscape and pastoral, the farewells and inscription to the chant of objects and history. Yao Mian’s archaic poems and Metrical poems are all good. His archaic poems filled with great momentum and his Metrical poems have characteristics of simplicity and elegance. There are also some fresh and natural poems of his. Yao Mian likes to use the technique of BiXing. His choice of imagery is very characteristic. He likes to use grow or powerful imagery on archaic poems and likes to use the noble and pure imagery such as plum, pine and other on Metrical poems.
