"Changshan Zhen Iwashi" Postscript End Research

Shentao, whose original name was Erzheng, courtesy name was Xiyong, and who styled himself as Paolu, was born in Jiaxing, Zhejiang. He was a philologist and an epigrapher in Qing dynasty.He wrote many books such as The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph, ShuoWen Gu Ben Kao, The Collected Works of Shi Jing Zhai,The Notes On Poet and Poetry of Pao Lu Poetry, Se Xie Serial etc.The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph, which was one of the influential epigraphs among Qing dynasty of that field, collected250epigraphs of Changshan county and covered from Qing and Han dynasty to Song and Yuan dynasty. It contained various forms of epigraphy, stele, cliff carved stone, tomb statue, stone inscription statue and so on. The Bawei of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph provided many perfect details of textual research on written language, history, official system, geography and family name and so on and so forth, which was not only revise predecessors’error, but also complement the missing words and omissions of the epitaph, and shows huge value of reference and academy. However, for the limitation of material collection and academic standard, there were still some defects.The paper, from the contents of Bawei and its academic value, studying on the book systematically and comprehensively. The publication I’ve chosen is New version of lithoglyph primary sources volume1, book18, which was copied in the22nd year of Daoguang reign(1842).The paper, firstly, combing textual research of the script, history, official system, geography, custom, family name and other aspects that related to the Bawei to trace the specific contribution in those fields. Secondly, examines the original Bawei and supplements the omissions based on the relative rubbings, epigraphs on the several famous books of epigraphy field. Those books are collections of Chinese past Lithoglyph Rubbings Held in Beijing Library (Beijing Library Rubbings for short), Collection of Tang Epigraph, and Collation and Annotation of Inscriptions from the Han and Wei Dynasty to the Following Six Dynasties etc. Finally, according to Lithoglyph Epigraph Index to find the recordings that has contained, then refers to the research achievements related to those epigraphs, summarizes the textual research scattered in the book to supplement the omissions and revise errors. Furthermore,and identifies,corrects and replenishes the Bawei by referring to famous historical literature such as historical recordings,local chronicles. The research achievements of Bawei are remained to be abundant and the specializing research on The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph are rare.Therefore, the paper tries to explore it on the basis of forefathers’research in purpose of penetrating to and promoting the specialized research on The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph.This paper comprises six parts, they are as follows:The first part is Introduction. It includes a conceptive view on "Bawei",a brief introduction of its development history and value,detailed description of the recent research on it and naturally comes to the conclusion that it is important and urgent to pay more attention to the research of Bawei.A brief introduction of Shen Tao and a general description of the Bawei of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph.The second part includes Chapter2and Chapter3.It includes the basic content of the Bawei and is the principal part of this paper. A detailed description on the content of the Bawei is provided through the textual criticism,history, system and geographic research,officers’ criticism, the research on folk and name and mistakes on revision.The third part,Chapter4,deals with the value and importance of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph.It,based on the collected data provided in Part2,talks about the impact of this book and its value in the light of exegetic,literature, inscription philology, history and calligraphy and also summarizes defects of the Bawei of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph.The fourth part,Chapter5,the sparkling part of this paper, which provides the correction of the Bawei of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph.It points out the mistakes and rectifies them. Secondly,Volume Five and Volume Six are altogether titled Kaiyuansi Sanmenlou Shizhu Ke jing Zaoxiang Bing Zhuzhu Timing and are added orderly at the end for the relevant studies of literature and history.The fifth part,Chapter6, provides the tentative research on the Bawei,is an inovation part.It describes the research contents and the value and further discusses the present situation and outlook of the research on the Bawei. And it also summarizes the methods and procedures.The sixth part is the appendix of the index of The Records of Changshan Lithoglyph in The index of inscription preface and postscript for the convenience of the experts and scholars who may need relevant materials for further research.
