Phenomenon Backpacker Youth Subcultures Perspective

As one of the fashionable independent travel forms, backpacker travel hasbecome the utmost concerning among people nowadays. It hasbecome popular inwestern countries since the last century. Thanks to explosive internet informationand fine outdoor outfit as well as infiltration of western postmodernism lifestyleimpact, backpacker tourism has become popular in the urban of China in20thcentury. In this paper, combined with the context of China, using theyouth-subculture theory, I attempt to explore the backpacker travel and the “donkeyfriends”. Discussing these topics is not only important to understanding among theurbanization of China but the changing patterns of youth life as well as ideology inChina. This paper is divided into six parts. The first part is introduction thatintroducing the paper’s background, meaning, methods and frameworks of thispaper The body of this paper chapter one is review the study progressof backpacking,summarizes the relevant theories of backpacker tourism. Chapter IIpresented thebasic features of backpacker as a subculture from the perspective of youthsubcultures. The third chapter described the concept of Chinese backpacker, namelythe phenomenon of "donkey friends", and briefly discussed on the causes of “donkeyfriends: in Chinese context. The fourth chapter is the core, which showed interviewsurvey results, and explained the the deep cause of Chinese backpacker tourism by"ritual resistance" theory of youth subculture. Combined with the life philosophyand ancient Chinese hermit culture, an unique spirit of backpackers wasSummed upin this part. The last section is the conclusion of this article, whch Drawed threeconclusions: Backpackertourism phenomenon is a product of Chinas urbanization process; Returning tonature, pursuiting of freedom and experiencing life is the deep reasons ofbackpacker tourisms.
