“Prefer” sentences are very important and common in Chinese language, whichis complex and difficult for foreign students to learn.“Prefer” structure has alreadybeen under great concern by many language authors in nearly three decades ofresearch, and a variety of monographs are in comprehensive papers. On itsdescription, these researches are mostly perspective by those of domestic scholars. Inthe process of teaching Chinese as a foreign language,“prefer” sentence still needs tobe studied and resolved. Students in the process of learning “prefer” sentence feelquite confused. A lot of bias occur when students using this structure, which is badlyneeded researchers to pay great attention to.To solve the problems and doubts of learning “prefer” structure and helpteachers of teaching Chinese as a second language to master a skill of teaching thestructure, the paper introduces the differences between some sentences, such as“prefer…to…” and “would rather…and…”. The paper shows us the specific contextand simple distinction between some words, such as “prefer, would rather” and so on,summarizes several features and the specific uses about the subtle differences andelaborate examples. In the last the paper mentioned some effective methods toexplain the sentences in teaching Chinese as a second language.This article is a summary review of the ideas of some authors and hopes to helpstudents in learning Chinese language and assist teachers of Teaching Chinese as asecond language to master an effective skill in the process of teaching “prefer”sentences.
