Objective To investigate the predictive value of alcohol dehydrogenase(ADH) activity for the early diagnosis of strangulated intestinal obstruction in rats.Methods104adult Wistar rats were randomly divided into4groups:control group(A,n=32), sham operation group(B,n=32), simple obstruction group(S,n=32), strangulated intestinal obstruction group (I,n=32). In Group A,nothing was performed. In Group B, only laparatomy was performed. In Group S, simple obstruction was created by ligating only an ileal segment,10cm proximal to the cecum. In Group I, the mesentery artery was ligated at the root. The levels of serum ADH, Aspartate aminotransferase(AST) and Alanine aminotransferase(ALT) were detected in each group in0.5h,1h,3h and6h after the modeling, and were analyzed their relationship with intestinal and liver injury scores.Results①In Group I,The level of ADH activity started to rise at0.5h, with no peak in6h。 The differences of ADH between Group I and Group B of0.5h,1h,3h and6h were significant (P<0.05); The differences of ADH between Group I and Group S of1h,3h and6h were significant (P<0.05); the differences of ADH between Group S and Group B of each time point were not significant (P>0.05); In Group I, ALT and AST were significantly increased in6h compared with Group B and S (P<0.05).②ompared with Group A, the differences of intestinal injury scores of Group I were significant (P<0.05),the differences of liver injury scores of Group I were significant in3h and6h (P<0.05) The differences of intestinal and liver injury scores of Group B and S were not significant (P>0.05)③ADH, ALT and AST of Group I were positively correlated with degree of small intestine and liver injury score (r=0.696-0.795, P<0.05)Conclusion ADH activity can be elevated in the early strangulated intestinal obstruction, was positively correlated with intestinal injury, and it may be a potential marker in the early diagnosis of bowel strangulated.
