Menopausal Syndromes(MPS) is refer to a series of clinical complicated syndromes during premenopausal and postmenopausal time. Most women show complicated.diverse and uncomfortable symptoms which include both physical and psychological changes. It influences women’s life quality when it develops serio usly. Western Medicine believes that MPS is related to hypo-ovarianism, estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor, neurotransmitters, immune function, free radical, vascular relaxing factor and so on. This paper summarizes the definition and disease mechanism of MPS,HRT,other treatments and HRT’s side effects in recent years.Traditional Chinese Medicine considers that deficiency of kidney causes the MPS basically, the aliment of other organs, qi and blood is the indirecet reason. During premenopausal and postmenopausal time,qi of kidney, extraordinary channels, blood and body fluids are weakening that can’t be modulated because of the physical factors, delivery and feed, disease, nutrition, labor and rest, social environment, mental factors and so on. Kidney yin and yang imbalance, thereby enabling other dysfunctional organs especially heart, liver and spleen.MPS is based on qi deficiency of kidney,Yin and Yang imbalance in clinical condition, but Yin deficiency of kidney is the most common because of women’s menstruation, pregnancy, parturition and lactation. At the same time, stagnation of liver qi,hyperaction of liver yang, heart-kidney imbalance and spleen-kidney-yang deficiency come out. Finally those symptoms which include reheat sweat ing, hectic, fever, irritability, dizziness, tinnitus, backache, edema, cutaneous pruritus, restless mood appear. The main therapeutic principle is replenishing kidney yin and restoring balance of yin yang to make organs, qi and blood harmonious. This paper refers to the exemplificative syndromes and classic prescriptions which are similar to the MPS’pathogenesis and symptoms in the ancient literatures of TCM. According to the TCM’s principle that same treatment can be used to different diseases when pathogenesis and syndrome are same. We can select the classic prescription that is corresponding to the MPS’syndrome and then expond the rationality and effectiveness of treating MPS with TCM therapy and herbs,Summarizing a number of prestigious and veteran old TCM doctors’s academic thoughts about MPS,including the different views on etiology and mechanism, differentiation types and clinical experience features in treating method. Focusing national veteran TCM doctor professor Wang Ziyu’s academic experience of treating MPS from liver and kidney point, and learning what Professor Wang emphasizes that treating MPS based on differentiation flexibly. My tutor Teacher Chen Yan has the insight about MPS based on inheriting Professor Wang’s academic thoughts of gynecological diseases therapy and combining her own years’ clinical experience. She adopts the method of replenishing kidney yin, calming liver yang, tranquilizing and nourishing heart mind to treat MPS. Clinically, she adds and subtracts herbs based on her fundamental prescription to get curative efficacy.Ultimately, confirming the important position of treating MPS with TCM through diversified discussion.
