Objective:To observe the TCM syndromes distribution of metabolic syndrome (MS) in Dongcheng District, Beijing. To investigate the correlation between anthropometrical parameters, laboratory indexes and TCM syndromes.Methods:1102MS patients are selected from the Dongcheng District Community Health Records according to the definition about metabolic syndrome stated by the Chinese Diabetes Society in2004. The data of demographic, history(including smoking and drinking habits, coronary heart disease, diabetes, hypertension), anthropometrical parameters (including height, weight, BMI,Waistline, hipline, W/H ratio, SBP, DBP)and laboratory indexes(including TG, TC, LDL-C,HDL-C, FBG, UA) is descriptive statistically analyzed. Binary logistic regression analysis is applied to find the correlation between TCM syndromes and the parameters or indexes such as BMI, W/H ratio, SBP, DBP, TG, TC, LDL-C, HDL-C, FBG and UA, in order to find out the indicative parameters or indexes.Results:①Demographic:The1102MS patients age from27to92while the average age is65. The ratio of man to female is5:9.②As to the the components of MS,670patients (61%) have hyperlipidemia.1080patients (98%) have hypertension.897patients (81%) have diabetes.954patients (87%) are overweight.③For the TCM syndrome distribution, syndrome of hyperactivity of liver yang, syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney and syndrome of abundant phlegm-dampness are most commomly seen, stands at27.9%,23.7%and21%respectively, followed by syndrome of deficiency of both vital energy and yin, syndrome of blood stasis and syndrome of yin deficiency of body fluid, stands at16%,15.2%and11.6%respectively.The rest syndromes are less common, accumulation of damp heat in the spleen at4.5%, syndrome of deficiency of both yin and yang at2.3%, heat syndrome liver meridian at2.3%, syndrome of spleen deficiency at1.4%, and syndrome of qi stagnation only at0.7%.④For the correlation between the TCM syndromes and the parameters or indexes, both BMI and TG are positive correlated with syndrome of abundant phlegm-dampness, and negative correlated with syndrome of yin deficiency of body fluid and syndrome of deficiency of both vital energy and yin.FBG is positive correlated with syndrome of deficiency of both vital energy and yin and accumulation of damp heat in the spleen, and negative correlated with syndrome of hyperactivity of liver yang. UA is positive correlated with syndrome of spleen deficiency. Conclusion:The components of MS in Dongcheng District are not evenly distributed. Almost every MS patient suffers from hypertension. The most popular TCM syndromes are syndrome of hyperactivity of liver yang, syndrome of yin deficiency of liver and kidney, syndrome of abundant phlegm-dampness, syndrome of deficiency of both vital energy and yin, syndrome of blood stasis and syndrome of yin deficiency of body fluid. The research proves that BMI,TG, FBG and UA are correlated with the TCM syndromes, which can guide the clinical treatment.
