This dissertation is composed of three chapters. Chapter1provided an introduction to investigation on the chemical composition and biological activity of Podocarpus fleuryi Hickel; In the second chapter, we described the isolation and identification of chemical consitituents from Sladenia celastrifolia Lurz.; In the last chapter, we summarized all the structure of natural abietane-type diterpenoids and totarane-type diterpenoids from the genus Podocarpus, and biological activity research about them.By means of chromatography methods and spectroscopic evidences,62compounds were isolated and identified from the two species of plants, the classes of these compounds include seco-iridoid terpenes, sesquiterpenes, diterpenes, triterpenes, lignans, sterols, flavonoids, and phenolic compounds. Among them,4compounds were showed be new ones, including1seco-iridoid terpene, and3abietane-type diterpenoids. Some of the abietane-type and totarane-type diterpenoids were tested for cytotoxicity against five human cancer cell lines HL-60, SMMC-772, A-549, MCF-7and SW480.Podocarpus fleuryi Hickel, belongs to genus Podocarpaceae, distributed in the south of Hainan, Taiwan, Guangdong, Guangxi and Yunnan. Our investigation of the chemical constituents of twigs and leaves of this plant has led to the isolation of three new abietane-type diterpenoids (1-3), together with25known ones (4-28). Cytotoxicitiy of compounds1-8were tested against five human cancer cell lines HL-60, SMMC-772, A-549, MCF-7and SW480, of which fleuryinol B (2), and19-hydroxyferruginol (4) exihibited moderate cytotoxic activities against some cells.Sladenia celastrifolia Lurz. is a monotypic species widely distributed in Burma, northern Thailand, and the southern China. Previously, few terpenoids have been isolated from this plant. Phytochemical study on the stems and leaves of S. celastrifolia led to the isolation of34compounds, including1new ones (1).This review covers29literatures published to detail the pharmacological investigations and chemical constituents which were maily isolated in1970-2012of Podocarpus.
