Along with the fast development of auto industry, auto engine industry is also thriving. The key for auto engine manufacturers to maintain leading position is to manufacture high-quality engines without increasing the cost. Considering the long manufacturing process and huge amount of quality-control points, the quality and performance of auto engines depend much on process quality control. However, only tackling some quality issues are not enough to assure the quality of manufacturing process; the quality of process from material machining to engine assembly should be guaranteed. Therefore, how to pre-analyze the potential problems, how to evaluate whether the process is stable or not, how to early warn the coming problems, and how to analyze and tackle the new coming problems are main tasks, which need a comprehensive and systematic quality control method. To achieve the mentioned tasks, this paper introduce methods including process failure mode and effects analysis, process capability analysis, statistical process control, and seven diamonds problem tackling method. Therefore, a systematic method for problem-prospect, capability evaluation, problem warning and problem solving is integrated and built. The method is successfully applied in the machining of engine cylinder heads, cylinder bodies, crankshaft and engine assembly. By using the proposed method, the first time qualified rate has increased from97.3%to99.5%, and the incident per thousand vehicles has decreased from43.8to35.7, Base on2012Report of SGMW Engine Manufacturing Dept Quality Safety Committee.
