Frequent disasters in Poyang Lake Area posed serious threats to people’s property and lifesafety,disaster preparedness had been an urgent task of the government and people. floodsimulation is considered as an important reference to commanders’ decision-making.Now most ofthe researches which are based on two-dimensional GIS had two defects,poor expressiveness andnot providing globle decision.With the technology of three-dimensional GIS,achieved simulationof the process and affecting and laws of the Poyang Lake area on Digital Earth.The paper first introduced research and status of development on flood simulation in athome and abroad and relevant technology and theory;second, constructed the flood routing modeland particle system model of system;At the same time, established the geographical spatialdatabase and flood attribute database;Then,designed the structure and function of system;Inaddition, improved the tiles pyramid model method,and put forward the image real-time cuttingand efficient scheduling methods,and developed a backend system of efficient releasing romatesensing images,releasing the images in Poyang Lake area;Finally,developed the Poyang LakeArea flood simulation system,realized the functions of data management and simulation andresults outputing.The results of simulation on the Poyang Lake Area shows the system has some practicalvalue,and will play a very important role in flood control and disaster mitigation.
