When cutting a groove on shell of the pre-formed fragment warhead is taken as a pre-control measure, the specific parameters of groove determine the shape and size of fragments and also have a significant impact on warhead lethality. Based on the research result and experience abroad and at home, the present author uses AUTODYN (simulated software) to do a simulated analysis of the grooved shell explosion, and together with his own experiment, he finds how the groove depth, width, and interval affect the lethality of the pre-formed fragment warhead. In this paper, the author does a lot of simulation calculation of the pre-controlled shell explosion. He uses two-dimensional model with circumferential profile to simulate the shell fragmentation, with different groove wall thickness (10mm, etc) and different groove depth, width, intervals and explosive loading, and he finds how the three groove parameters affect the fragments formation rate, the fragment speed and mass loss, and how the explosive loading affects the pre-controlled shell fragmentation. He also uses two-dimensional model with axial-section to simulate the pre-controlled shell fragmentation with annular parallel groove which is proved to be not good, and finds better annular groove parameters. In this paper, the present author plans and does a static explosion test to research the fragments distribution with different groove cutting. He compares and analyzes the fragment formation with different groove depth and intervals, thus verifying the simulation results.
