Cognitive Experience, Practice: Maze Landscape Design

In contemporary landscape designs, there is an indisputable fact that taking traditional form of the "labyrinth/maze" as the theme of modern design has drawn growing attentions.Based on this phenomenon, this paper takes labyrinth landscape as the object of the study, through various research methods, such as literature searching, field research, case study, and graphical representation, it studies the labyrinth landscape from the perspectives of cognition, experience and practice. This paper discusses the concept, origin,types and meaning of the labyrinth landscape in the cognition part. And based on1677France Versailles Labyrinth/maze, it carries out an in-depth cognition study. In the experience part, it analyzes the composition, structure and experience of the labyrinth landscape, and carries out the personal experience by taking the2011Xi’an International Horticultural Exposition Labyrinth as an example. In the practice part, the author takes the labyrinth garden from the Design College of Nanjing Art Institute as the case study, conducts specific explorations and researches on its theme, strategy, design operation, construction process and result expression. Finally, it draws a conclusion from the perspectives of cultural significance of the labyrinth landscape and design operation, and it is expected to bring some valuable references to contemporary landscape designs.
