Research on Damage Mechanism of PELE in Urban Campaign

PELE (Penetrator with Enhanced Lateral Efficiency) is a kind of new ammintion that has concurrently function of the high-explosive shell and armor-piercing shell, having no the blasting accessories on it. Facing the target PELE’s armor-piercing effect and fragmentation effect after armour-piercing can achieve a general effect on the damage of the spot, surface and inner object to deal with different target effectively and kill the personnel behind the target. PELE have highly safety function to store,carry and use. It has little threaten to the self-personnel and non-military personnel in battle, thus PELE has good campaign effect and is the best choice to campaign in urban. PELE can be used for different caliber and types of ammunition, improve the armament power of the weapon system and reach the normal ammunition campaign effect by using small amount of PELE, so it has a great application development in the future.First the thesis discussed the characteristics of the modern urban campaign and the requirement to the armament. Many modern weapons and ammunitions are not suitable for the urban campaign, at the same time, the urban campaign occupy the important position in the modern war, therefore the modern urban campaign demand the new weapons and ammunitions in urgent, Thesis mainly stated the application advantage of PELE in urban campaign from the view point of PELE’s mechanism and function, and carry out the analysis between the PELE ammunition and other ammunition in a contrast way and damage tests.Next the text analyzed the process of PELE perpendicular penetrating into concrete target by numerical simulation and tests of the perpendicular penetrating into concrete target with30mm PELE. Results show that30mm PELE could penetrate into concrete target of250mm thicknesses and have better damage ability and the effect behind the target.At last, the thesis give the ways to improve functions of samll caliber PELE ammunition by analysis and tests on its size, structure, material, etc.
