Based on nylon6, we employ chemical silver plating technology to form a layer of silver on the surface of nylon fiber to get the silver fiber. Silver fiber is a kind of metallic surface fibers with a variety functionality, the surface characteristics of matrix fiber has been changed, such as, biocompatibility, conductivity, antibacterial, radiation protection and so on.First, this paper studies the surface morphological characteristics and the basic physical properties of the silver fiber. Silver fiber not only retains a circular cross section and has a uniform silver layer, but also has a smooth surface with metallic luster, it turns out that silver plating effect is good. As the silver content is growing, the conductivity and durability are improving, while the moisture absorption is decreasing. Silver fiber tensile fracture strength is less than nylon, but elongation at break is increased, which proves that silver fiber has a good elastic performance. Infrared spectrum analysis showed that N-H bond bending vibration moves to the right which destroyed the amide hydrogen bonds of the molecules, C-O bonds of carboxyl are also damaged, which makes O-and Ag+combined.Second, we utilize the type of HKV141D-I coated wire machine to develop silver-coated fibers which have different fineness, kinds, the ways of coating and the degrees of coating and to research the structures and performance characteristic of these silver-coated fibers, Within a range of coated degree, the breaking strength of the silver coated fiber will be increased with coating degrees rising; the breaking strength of single coated yarn are1.02times as high as double coated yarn, and elongation is1.11times; the moisture regain of silver/cotton coated fiber is higher than silver fiber, the yarn owns good moisture absorption performance. Silver/polyester single coated yarn moisture regain is about2times of its double coated yarn. The conductivity of latter is4.42times of former; the coated fiber has a excellent conductivity when coated degree and moisture is high.Then, multifunctional fabric with properties of anti-radiation, anti-static is designed by sliver-coated fiber and which physical properties and performance are discussed. The results show that the coated yarn fabric has good mechanical properties, and the silver coated fiber fabric showed good elastic performance of silver fiber which lowed the possibility of fabric destruction. The silver coated fiber fabric will have a good breathable performance when their density and thickness are low, surface is smooth and hygroscopicity is good. The fabric crease resilience is related to the structure of single yarn, the more cotton content, the worse crease resilience.Finally, the experiment of electromagnetic shielding properties showed that the silver coated fabric has a good electromagnetic shielding performance, In addition to the1#sample, electromagnetic wave shielding effectiveness values are more than35dB within10MHZ-1GHZ frequency range. At a constant condition, there is no difference in shielding effectiveness no matter the filler is silver fiber or silver/cotton coated yarn of fabric.
