Qi Dress

Qi of the Northern Dynasty was a short-lived Dynasty and it seems unremarkable in Chinese history, but it was in an important position in the costume history.It was the crucial period of transition from "coat and skirt" system to "coat and pants"system in the history of Chinese costume. Shanxi is an important area in Qi, including another capital Jinyang,which merged into a variety of civilization and created a unique Jinyang culture in Qi.Costume was deeply influenced by Jinyang culture, not only have common feature of Qi, but also show the unique feature of Shanxi costume.On the basis of the collected ancient historical data and archaeological data, firstly this paper discusses the social situation of Qi and Shanxi under the rule of Qi. Secondly, Qi costume are studied respectively from the system and the images, which system is summarized from all classes according to the different gender and images such as the frescoes and pottery figurine from Shanxi’s tombs are fully used. On this basis, then sum up the types, characteristics and causes of Shanxi costume in Qi and reconstruct Shanxi’s costume culture.Finally,analyze the influence on Qi society and the following dynasties especially Sui and Tang dynasties’costume.
