| Holding large-scale activities has become a quite important task forcities in China, as an efficient way of promoting city image, spreadingcity influence, and raising the level of city management. Internationalevents such as the Olympic Games and the World’s Fair have so farprovided Beijing and Shanghai, the top two metropolises in China, withgreat opportunities and space for development. Some of the benefits arealready fully exposed. Apart from events, there are thousands of activitiesheld in communities and by companies, which, for the hosts themselves, are virtually large-scale, too. Therefore, the research on eventmanagement is significant for city culture in general. The success ofevents mainly depends on powerful management, which includes themanaging process, the mode of structure, and the running system. Variousproblems are bound to occur during event management. Many decisionsare made according to past experiences, arbitrary judgment, or personalinterest, and every single part of the event could go wrong or changesuddenly, preventing the whole process from being carried on smoothly. The worst situations would even lead to total failure. This paper tries to figure out some common rules in large-scale activities, and by studyingthe basic concepts, features, and categories, to establish a possible modelunder the scope of synergetics, so that we may further analyze eventmanagement in theory, condition, cause, comparison, idea and strategy. Inthe conclusion, this paper explains how, on the bases of reasonableexpectations of the demand for events, suitable planning is to be made, which guarantees not only the effectivity of event management, but alsothe final success.Chapter One is a general introduction, including the basic conceptsof synergetics and event management, as well as some basic principles, the background of the study, former achievements on this topic and thelatest results.Chapter Two gives out the theory bases and the structure of analyze. On fully analyzing the basic theories of synergetics, this chapter putsevent management in synergetic context as an application.Chapter Three takes the event management in Shang Hai as a casestudy, examining the present situation, the feature, and the general modeof event management compared with the Shang Hai mode.Chapter Four focuses on analyzing the causes of problem happeningduring event management. From the success and failureslisted, with the author’s own experiences, the paper gives out somefurther thinking.Chapter Six draws a plan of ideas and strategies for improving eventmanagement. Based on the theoretic model afore mentioned, theconclusion is meant to be a possibility of general rules and practicalsuggestions. |
