Research On Giddens’s Political Thought Of The Climate Change

With the problem of climate change becoming more serious, the current world are paying more and more attention on the climate issues, besides the international community begins a series of cooperation and discussion on how to tackle the climate change issues. The research theory in academic areas of climate change and how to solve these problems also emerges in an endless stream. They show great attention and big determination to solve the climate change problems in view of political science, ethics, economics or sociology perspective.Anthony Giddens is a famous British sociologists and political scientists, who studies the various aspects of ecological politics, party politics, international relations, social management that show a unique insight and in-depth statement. His "third way" claim is a "center-left" route, he is regarded as one of the representatives of Western Marxism, its eco-political views are deeply internalized from Western Marxism’s basic position. As his The Politics of Climate Change was published, it produced a great sensation and impact. Moreover it’s a constructive achievement for Western Marxism Ecological Politics.This paper focuses on the political angle of climate change that mainly do research on the book of The Politics of Climate Change which was written by Giddens, willing to all-roundly grasp the academic master’s political ideas of how to respond to climate change, and then to study the politics of climate change combined with his other works and theory, focusing on "Giddens paradox" type, building ensuring state, mitigation and adaptation, and the effectiveness of the regional climate cooperation, by the way to put forward some points of my own by view combining with Giddens’s thoughts and countermeasures to solve climate problem. This paper researches on Giddens’s political thoughts of climate change through the following five parts:The first part is introduction, mainly to sum up the research background, research significance and research status at home and abroad. Also briefly explains Giddens’s main political ideas of climate change, at last points out the innovation of this paper:Giddens’s political thought of Climate change has opened up a new field and put forward many new ideas to solving the problem of climate change with the perspective of political science. Besides, I point out that the resolve-ment of the political issues of climate change should be based on the needs of the protection of human survival which by the method of combining with Giddens’s political thought of climate change.The second part is about what Giddens paradox is and the resolving way of it. This part try to understand Giddens paradox combined with climate change and the relationship of public life, and then analyze the reasons of the existence of paradox, and put forward the effective ways to resolve Giddens paradox combined with the alienation consumption theory of western Marxisim.The third part focuses on one of the resolving ways of Giddens paradox: building ensuring state to deal with climate change. Giddens believes that state is the main behavior to deal with climate change, so we should build ensuring state, and transform from enabling state to ensuring state, and implement the politics convergence and economy convergence policy at the same time. Finally I will briefly analyze this idea of Giddens’.The forth part focuses on the other resolving ways of Giddens paradox: mitigation and adaptation. Mitigation is mainly aimed at the developed countries, and adaptation is for the developing and backward countries which are weak or now in the process of development. Finally in the third section I give some briefly thoughts on the fairness problem of mitigating and adapting climate change.The fifth part mainly studies the geopolitics of climate change. Starting from the status of world is interconnected and interdependent, to research on the current energy security and oil security problem. Finally I put forward the importance of regional climate cooperation to solve climate change problems.
