The Structure And Influence Of Japan’s East Asian Community

The idea of East Asian Community in Japan is an attempt to promote nationalstrategy, explore dominance in East Asia cooperation and raise their competitivenesswhen Japan faces the severe situation at home and abroad. It doesn’t substitute for theexisting “10+1”,“10+3”, EAS framework and so on, but to coordinate the existingcooperation frameworks by integrating the East Asian Community. On the basis, it willform an open, incompact and multiple cooperation mechanism in the end.The Idea of East Asian community is the latest development of Japanese East Asianstrategy. Although the main purpose of this strategy is to ensure its own economicinterests, become political power and balance China’s influence, regional integration willplay an important role with the continuous development of economic globalization.The idea of East Asia community is a kind of cooperation model that all the stateactors in East Asia look forward to forming a coherent whole in the process of integrationand long-term cooperation. The main content is to establish a Community of peace,prosperity and progress. But the establishment of the system still exists many problems.Based on the construction of East Asian Community in Japan, this paper is dividedinto four chapters to analyze the theme. Firstly, the paper introduces the regionalismtheories in International Relations, defines what the region is and what the regionalism is.Chapter I also briefly introduces the regionalism theories, the origin, the scope and theconnotation of the East Asian community. Secondly, the paper briefly reviews the idea ofthe regional cooperation which prepared for the East Asian Community raised by Japan.Thirdly, the paper analyses the dilemma of the East Asian community building from twofactors both inside and outside. From the internal factors, the paper analyses that theNeo-nationalism in Japan and the double identity between east and west have negativeeffect on the construction of East Asian Community in Japan. From the external factor,the paper analyses the different response to the Japan’s construction of East AsianCommunity from other countries. Finally, it analyses the negative and positive effects onthe idea of East Asian community, gives the feasible policy proposals to China.
