Zhou Shoujuan, as a "cultural symbol" and ever the most controversial representativewriter of Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School, represented literary men’s microcosm oflife, psychological attitudes and feelings of Mandarin Duck and Butterfly School in the20thcentury. He who was based on the opposite of "serious literature" with his own uniqueperspective shored up a field of popular literature. He owned great significant researchvalue as he handed down unique cultural heritage to the offspring with the ups and downsof literary and social streams through his concentration of translation, publishingmagazines, as well as writing novels and essays.The early and late periods of Zhou Shoujuan assumed diverse aesthetic tastes, artisticstyles and literary ideas, thus possessing complicated artistic patterns. In the early period,he was active in all major channels of the press, who enjoyed high prestige and focused onthe description of tender and romantic love stories and marriages. Later on, he achievedsignificant returning transformation from utilitarianism to noumenon, from going into thesociety enthusiastically to concentrating fully on retiracy, expecting to live a reclusion lifejust like Tao Yuanming and Lin Hejing. After the foundation of new China, Zhou Shoujuanrestarted to focus on the fresh and bright essays writing apart from appealing to politicalthemes, mainly engaged in describing flowers and plants, bonsais and travel notes, with thepresentation of intrapersonal calmness and lyrical tranquility.The paper takes the heart journey, literary and artistic creation of Zhou Shoujuan’slate period as the research emphasis, including three parts for discussion. The first partanalyzes the transition point of Zhou Shoujuan’s early and late periods through the aspectssuch as heart journey transition of aesthetic style, and probes into the deep reasons ofaesthetic style transition. The second part evaluates and analyzes the essays and novelsrespectively of Zhou Shoujuan’s late period. The third part concentrates on the explorationof the reason why Zhou Shoujuan committed suicide, including Zhou Shoujuan’spersonality traits, and spies on the spiritual core of Zhou Shoujuan with the theory of psychoanalysis.
