Study On Conjunctions In "ErchengYulu"

“ErchengYulu” is an important piece of material, of which the age and version areboth reliable, the degree of language is relatively high and the length is moderate. So,“ErchengYulu” is a valuable linbuistic material which can be used to study characteristicsand trends of language in a specific period of time.The major research methods of this paper are quantitative methods, the exhaustivedescription, and diachronic comparison and so on.Mainly based on the significance standard, firstly, we divide the164conjunctionsaltogether in “ErchengYulu” into2parts. One is coordinative conjunction and the other issubordinating conjunction. After that, we divide coordinative conjunction into4categoriescalled parallel conjunction, continue conjunction, progressive conjunction and alternativeconjunction. We also divide subordinating conjunction into6categories called conditionconjunction, supposition conjunction, concessions conjunction, causes and effectsconjunction, transition conjunction and purpose conjunction. We carry on the exhausteddescription of each kind of the conjunctions, so we reveal the total appearance of theconjunctions quite comprehensive.The characteristics of the conjunctions in “ErchegnYulu” have been described andinduct in this article. As for the syllable structure, there are57monosyllable noteconjunctions amounting to5975examples,102double syllable conjunctions, amounting to769examples,2three syllable conjunctions amounting to3examples and1four syllableconjunction amounting to1example. Although the number of double syllable conjunctionsoccupy the superiority, the number of examples of monosyllable note conjunctions occupythe superiority. As for the connection language unit, the conjunctions which only connectwords or phrases are9, accounting for5.49%, connect not only words or phrases, but alsoclauses or sentences are22, accounting for13.41%, connect the clauses only are111,accounting for67.68%, connect both clauses and sentences are20, accounting for12.20%,connect sentences only are2, accounting for1.22%. As for the use way, the conjunctionswhich only can be used independently are102, accounting for62.20%, can be used bothindependently and in pairs are51, accounting for31.10%.,only can be used in pairs are11, accounting for6.70%. As for the syntax position, there are101conjunctions that canconnect clauses or sentences with subjects. In these conjunctions, the conjunctions onlyused in front of subjects are69, accounting for68.32%, only used after subjects are14,accounting for13.86%. Other18can be used both in front of and after subjects, accountingfor17.82%.In this paper, we choose supposition conjunctions of “ErchengYulu” andXinJiaoYuanKanZaJuSanShiZhong to make diachronic comparisons.
