Chinese film was born in1905,and films with long stories came out in1921.Thenfilm,as an important cultural product,began to enter the public’s daily life. The filmproducers,the film companies take measures to grab market share and improve economicreturns, from editing and producing to propagandizing and popularizing. The basis of thisthesis is the newspapers and magazines of the republican period and a lot of archivalmaterials of films of that time. The period that the thesis studied is from1921to1937,andthe place studied is mainly Shanghai. The thesis studied the measures of films’ marketoperation which made them get good returns,in order to show the basic features of thepublic’s films of that time. In the last part, this thesis compared The Cross of TheStreet,the public’s film of1937,and Tiny Times,the commercial film of2013,to summarizethe measures of market operation of early Chinese public’s film how to influent that of thefilms in our times. |
