My thesis concerns ’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’ as the study content.’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’ and ’Conference in E-Hu’, and’Conference in Nankang’ constitutes the three times debates of Zhuxi and Lu Jiu-yuan, in which a prevalent view takes ’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’ for an oversimplified interpretation, that is, confined its connotation of the divergence of Zhu and Lu merely to the literal meanings rather than a further step of exploring its theoretical significance. Via a systematical study in ’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’ between Zhu and Lu, my thesis considers’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’has revealed the most crucial problems of Zhu and Lu in this initial discussion, therefore it is suggested to be considered the most important aspect that reflects the similarities and difference of Zhu and Lu.In Chapter1,I will focus on the context of the dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi within Zhu and Lu. Here I need firstly review the fellowship between Zhu and Lu before and after ’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’, that manifests that Zhu and Lu doesn’t treat this dispute out of personal feelings or arbitrarily without preparation. Secondly I attempt to reveal the theme of the dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi between Zhuxi and Lu Jiu-yuan.In Chapter2,I will further give analyses and interpretations on the reciprocal reply of Zhu and Lu. I consider that the initial divergence in Wu-Chi between Zhu and Lu lies in their different comprehension on Tai-Chi.The focu here is to prove that Zhuxiplacedthe’Wu-Chi’aboved’Tai-Chi’is correct, Lu opposes the concept ’Wu-Chi’ and inquires Pictorical Illustration of Tai-Chi.It also stems from the different understanding of’Chi’ between Zhuxi and Lu jiu-yuan. Zhuxi take ’Chi’ as ’Zhi’,but Lu take’Chi’as’Zhong’.In Chapter3, on the comprehension of ’Tai-Chi in Feminine-Masculine’, Lu takes ’Feminine-Masculine’ for the Supreme, i.e., it is’Feminine-Masculine’is Tai-Chi, and Zhu come up with a quite different interpretation, i.e., Tai-Chi and Feminine-Masculine can be divided in Tao and things again, therefore Tai-Chi is Tao and ’Feminine-Masculine’ is things. Here Zhu takes ’Tai-Chi’ for ’Idea’ and ’Feminine-Masculine’ for ’Qi’ and thus obviously a generating relation within Tai-Chi and Feminine-Masculine reveals. It is that Tai-Chi generates Feminine-Masculine, and Idea generates Qi, that initiates the problems of the relation of Idea and Qi. In addition, Zhu has also introduce the teaching ’succession to good and realization of nature divide in Feminine-Masculine’ to ’Tai-Chi in Feminine-Masculine’, which reveals Zhuxi’s initial considering on the nature of Qi Zhi. Considering that it lies in his thought of nature of Qi Zhi that Zhuxi draws a demarcation line with Xin-xue, thus the significance of ’The Dispute of Wu-Chi and Tai-Chi’can be seen.
