Books on Famine Relief for Better Well Being of The People written by Dong Wei in the Southern Song Dynasty is the first ever series of books on famine relief and management. It is worth studying carefully because it not only includes a great many theories and practices of famine relief policies of different dynasties but also marks the high level that the Song Dynasty has achieved in famine relief policy. This series of books provides abundant historical materials for researches on famine relief policies in ancient China and a clue to do research on the thoughts, politics and culture of the North Song Dynasty in a unique perspective. From the perspective of philology and history, the paper probes into the background of the book and the authors, the popularity of different copies of the books, the importance of historical materials to the books, Dong Wei’s thoughts on famine relief policies, the value and influence of the books.
