| Xu Wei and his dramas play a very important roles in Chinese drama history. His life experience and his dramas Four Apes and Ge Daixiao attract so many scholars’attention, but there are still many arguable issues existing. Based on analyzing and summarizing of historical material and former researcher achievement of Xu Wei and his dramas, this essay presents unique ideas and understandings on some debatable questions.There are mainly five parts in this essay.The introduction is the literary review of three phases of Xu Wei’s dramas, divided by the year1959and1980and the character of each phase is analyzed. Chapter one talks about the augmentable issue on his life experience from four aspects, including his family background, his failure of imperial examination, his life as official advisor, his psyche madness and suspicion of kill his wife. In various reasons for his failure of imperial examination, his out of standard mind is considered as the main cause. When analyzing his delight and worry as an official advisor, the comfortable life is just an appearance, but failure to achieve his ambition hinted his heart. As the reasons of his madness and his murder of his wife, the failure to attain his ambition in long time is the deep reason, which is a family tragedy caused by many social and politic factors.Chapter two discusses his drains Four Apes from three angles: the text, the create time and the theme. The drams Four Apes based on the well-known folk tale, and created in difference phares. The part Jade Buddhist Monk was created in his early stage, and History of Wild Drum Female Mulan and Female Topmost Scholar were created in his late stage, around the fouth year and eighth year in Wanli Reign. Xu Wei was inspired to create this work, which represents the theme of "three mourning call of apes can tear person, not mention more" This essay reviews and summarizes litereral achivement and my own oppion about the text analysis, the create time and theme study of this play.Chapter three discusses closed connected work with Xu Wei:Ge Daixiao from its artistic character and its authorship. Ge Daixiao is great parody of Four Apes, in which humor, absurdness and irony are used to reveal the social darkness. Because of the dynasty the author lived in, he used Xu Wei avoiding trouble. The last part is conclusion, which intends to reveal the current research situation of Xu Wei and his dramas, and supplies a summary of former researcher achievements and some still existing arguments. |
