English financial coverage, with its inherited uncertainty of values, inevitable linguistic and cultural obstacles, frequently beset E-C News translators into the dilemma of "being accurate" or "being efficient"; meanwhile, the ever-enlarging demand on financial coverage requires a not only efficient but also effective strategy for the translator. Nonetheless, the "functional equivalence" theory put forth by Eugene A. Nida, remains applicable as a practical guide line for translators. In this dissertation, the present author selects sixteen essays on financial issues from "The Economist". He translates them and examines peculiarities in style, syntax, and diction. While attempting to apply functional equivalence theory to the translation of financial lexis, the present author explores feasible approaches in his work, both the thesis and the translation.
