Tie Ning is a prolific writer in contemporary literary world. Her novels, especially medium-length novels, are popular in different levels of readers. There are two reasons for readers falling in love with her work:on the one hand, her work’s theme pays attention on the survival difficulties of the underclass weak in the bottom of the after cultural reform and the period of reform and opening up to the world outside, embodying the absurd experience of human life. She reveals the reason for humans suffering the absurd, that is, the institution and daily norms established in the absurd world come from the human’s absurd behaviors caused by the promotion of human’s absurd soul. On the other hand, in the perspective of narrative technique, Tie Ning chooses the appropriate novel form, which integrates the form and content. In this paper, the author analyses the text, mainly includes her medium-length novels since1990s, and discusses the features of her absurd themes and absurd narration. The paper also refers to the analysis of narrative form, dialogue language, micro-rhetoric skills of novel and irony. Moreover, the paper horizontal compares Tie’s absurd narration with Vanguard Novels, exploring the cultural meaning under the narration.The introduction introduces the reason of selected topic, the breakthrough point, arguments and expectation target of the paper.The first chapter differentiates the source and features of Tie Ning’s medium-length novels, and inspects the absurd under the reason in the perspective of time background, western absurd thoughts and self-change-following mentality:partial absurd elements and integral absurd consciousness.The second chapter discusses the absurd narrative features of "Tie Ning Style" in narratology. On the one hand, this part illustrates dialogues in Tie Ning’s work from discourse manner; on the other hand, the part also discusses irony style and cultural meaning from the setting of figure of speech.The third chapter, in the light of alienation and struggle, this part elaborates the reason of absurd and the tragedy of struggle failure in Tie Ning’s work. Then, it also horizontal compares with Vanguard writers, and find the cultural meaning under the absurd narration, showing the tender narrative style with the undergoing hope in the absurd and appeal to ideal living environment.Conclusion indicates the limitation of the absurd narration in Tie Ning’s medium-length novels and short stories, and the literary value of her work.
