The objective of the present investigation lies in performing a comparative analysis on Chinese teaching materials used in Argentinian pedagogy of language institutes, academies and related institutions. Said comparative analysis focuses on the problem of localization and lexical appropriateness of these materials vis a vis a specific pedagogical target audience (i.e. native Argentinian students who receive Chinese schooling in the country), i.e. initial level classes composed of students with the same mother tongue and nationality, that is being carried out in a non-target language environment.First, we compile a selection of teaching materials that are representative of all Chinese teaching materials used in initial-level classes across the country; afterwards, we assess the pertinence and relevance of these materials by examining the goals and objectives of the materials during editing and compilation, their usage of the vehicular language and the translation and interpretations of lexical items; finally, we indicate the advantages and pertinence of said materials, while presenting our conclusions relevant to the question of bow to improve pedagogical processes and teaching materials’selection, in the framework of Chinese education in Argentina. |
