This is a translation report on Mary Barton. Mary Barton is a novel, created by Elizabeth Gaskell in1848.This novel mainly describes the Manchester workers’ miserable living situation during the Great Depression in England, and the heroine making unremitting efforts for her love. It is revealed the social principal contradiction that is the unfair of labor relations. The translator could only find the version of She Guitang and Xun Mei, printed in1978by Shanghai Translation Publishing House. But this version is quite long ago, no longer print, In order to make up this gap, the translator translated it again. Hope to get the hearts of readers.The main contents of this translation report are divided into five main parts:Part one is introduction of the author, this novel and the selections of chapters. Part two is about the translation process, including preparation, creation and proofreading. Part three analyzes the difficulties, including logical and dialect.Part four summarizes the experience in this work. Part five puts forward a problem. Among these five parts, the key goes to second and third part.
