Pan Jillian, a literary image created by Chinese ancient literati, first appeared All MenAre Brothers, a popular fiction written by Shi Nai’an. Afterwards, Lanling Xiaoxiaoshengcreated his citizen novel The Plum in a Golden Vase, intercepting the story of Pan Jillian andXimen Qing. Within inheritance and repetition for hundreds of years, the character of "PanJillian" had become a literary motif, constantly re-written and re-narrated. During thetwentieth Century, in the collision of Chinese and Western culture, with the transformationand alternation of new and old culture, Chinese intellectuals produced new understanding andfeelings. So the search and analysis on modern literature narrative mode, was not only thegrasp to the spirit of the Chinese nation at that time Chinese in nature, but also the perspectiveof the national culture. This paper collected and arranged the literary figures of Pan Jillian intwentieth Century, and focused on the classification, induction and summary of some writers’texts in1980s. On this basis, the paper, analyzing the causes and backgrounds of developmentof the motif of Pan Jillian, was analysis of the evolution of the motif of Pan Jillian in aspecific era in the context and the construction of characteristic patterns occurred in the newage, so that the literary image of Pan Jillian was put in the era of the developmentbackgrounds, the characteristics of the motif of Pan Jillian was grasped and read as a whole inthe rheology, the correct evaluation of writers on Pan Jillian’s re-writing and re-narrating.
