This is a report on the translation of Autism:A Very Short Introduction byUta Frith, from which I chose Chapter5Social communication:the heart of thematter and Chapter6Seeing the world differently as the source text. In the sourcetext, the author mainly discusses the causes of autism by introducing five big ideasand then proposes his own assumption after analyzing the common features of theseideas. The main content of this report is divided into four chapters: Chapter One isthe translation project description, including project background, objectives andsignificance. Chapter Two is the background of the source text, main content of thesource text, linguistic and structural features of the source text. Chapter Three isabout translation difficulties and methods, including preparations before translationand examples of using translation methods in the process of translation. Chapter Fourconcludes with the lessons learned from this project and the problems to be dealtwith in the translation project.Under the guidance of the Functionalist translation theory, the reporter arguesfor and emphasizes the importance of this theory to EST translation.
