Shengjing is a sutra which was translated by Zhu Fahu in258A.D. Because it’s full of spoken language,it’s quite valuable for us to know the language’s true face at that time.This paper is study on the kernel verbs of Shengjing,the kernel verbs are based on the Swadesh list.This paper is made of four chapters.Chapter one is an introduction that introduce the Shengjing,Zhu Fahu and the research status,significance and methods.Chapter two and three study on the eyes,ears,mouth,brain’s action and limbs’ action.The former includes6categories:visual verbs,auditory verbs,discourse verbs,drinking verbs,eating verbs and’knowing verbs.The latter includes9categories:walking verbs,lying verbs,standing verbs,sleeping verbs,giving verbs,killing verbs,death verbs and flying verbs.This paper will analyse each verb,statistic frequency,identify the different usage,and will try to explore the development clues of those kernel verbs.Chapter four is a summary listing which shows the kernel verbs of Shengjing from synchronic and diachronic angles.Thus,we can know the lanuage’s true face at middle ancient time,know the kernel verbs’ usage at that time,and explore the development clues of those kernel verbs to provide references for the history of Chinese vocabulary.
