An Application Of Variation Strategy To C-E Interpreting

The variation of translation is not a new phenomenon in China. However,throughout translation studies, Translation Variation was not officially absorbed intothe translation system. Until late1990s, taking the opportunity of thefourth translation boom, translation variation strategies, which was proposed byProfessor Huang Zhonglian, came into sight. Based on a large number of phenomenaof variation of translation, Professor Huang analyzed the nature of translationvariation, and then gradually completed the research framwork of variation theory.Under the background of information explosion and translation explosion,translation variation theory, the market-oriented theory, has been applied more widely.However, variation theory was mainly used in translation, and was rarely used ininterpreting, which provides a chance for the combination of variation theory andinterpreting.Taking the the Speech by Premier Li Keqiang at the World Economic ForumAnnual Meeting of the New Champions2013as the example, the author studies theapplication of variation strategies in C-E interpreting. With the comparision betweenthe two times’ interpreting, and the summing-up of the speech characteristics ofPremier Li Keqiang as the supporting material, analyze the guidance of variationstrategies for interpreting.
