Study On The Poetry Of Cheng Jinfang

Cheng Jinfang, a famous poet, scholar, book-collector in Qing dynasty, was also a quite noted Confucian business man. Owning to his generous personality, he made lots of friends throughout the country. Meanwhile, he was strongly addicted to books and had created many works. Because of his own unique style of writing poetry and ancient-style articles, he received good remarks from his contemporary artists Yuan Mei, Shen Dacheng. The content of his poetry was plentiful and broad-ranging, which is from the depiction of the country’s beautiful landscape to the retrospect of the historical figures; from the portrait of the deep friendship to. the bitter life of people from lower class. Meanwhile, the type of literature of his poetry is also multidisc and rich, including four words, five words, six words, seven words, nine words, miscellaneous words, ancient-type, modern-type, revers written for music and so on. On the whole, his poetry got good remarks from the great contemporary tartists and they had somehow artistic value. However, for some reasons at present the study of his poetry is rain. Thus, this paper contains Cheng Jinfang’ life experience, the content and style of his poetry aiming at giving a cornprehousice introduction of his poetry. This paper mainly contains the following three parts:The first chapter is a summary of Cheng’s birth extraction and work creation. Born in a big family which ran the salt business, Cheng lived a rich life when he was young but his live situation went to the opposite way when he was middle-aged. Although he experienced the great change in his family financial situation, he didn’t give up his pursuit for knowledge. The primary point of this part is about his life experience and creating circumstances. At the same time, the part gives a summary and classification of his poetry to foreshadow the study of the content of Cheng’s poetry.The second chapter is the analysis of the content of Cheng’s poetry. This part is mainly about the classification of his poetry according to the type of literature. His poetry could be classified as travel form, remember lyrics, banquet poetry and royal style poetry, which play a major role the content of his poetry. Through analyzing these poetry, we can get a brief introduction of his life experience and work creation. And this chapter’s task is to analyze the remember lyrics. This type of poetry truly reflects the emotion of the author, which could be the most repetitive part of Cheng’s poetry.The paper will analyze the artistic characteristic of Cheng’s poetry through the third chapter. According to his poetry’ content, reference from the reviews of other people, the type of literature, words and style, we can know his poetry clearly. This part is about the study of the artistic characteristic.Through the summary of the previous chapters, the last part of this paper gives a justice and objective evaluation of Cheng’s poetry and presents a real picture of his place and influence on the poetic history of Qing dynasty.
