Research On The Thought And Theory Of "Mouzi Li Huo Lun"

The historical documents records of "MouZi Li Huo Lun" are extremely limited, which mainly scattered records in a few books in the Han Dynasty. In addition there is no theoretical system in them. Scholars in ancient times or today, China or elsewhere were trapped in research on MouZi and his thought. So our understandings of MouZi are limited too. However the only materials have laid a valuable foundation for our study. Mr.ChenYinque said:"What we can be based on the materials, is only the remains of a minimum of part time; if we want to look into the depths of its entire structure,we must have a vision for the artists to appreciate the ancient painting sculpture and spirit, and we can understand the motive for saying. Who can truly understand them, must be in the same realm with the ancients; who cannot figure out it, may be a pity. It is very suitable for the purpose of this paper.In the Han dynasty, MouZi is the earliest historical works, which reflected the conflicts and integrations between Buddhism and Chinese traditional culture at the beginning of Buddhism in China. This paper mainly elaborates Buddhist thoughts on "MouZi Li Huo Lun" through Buddha’s features, views on life and practice. Besides, it comparatively analyzes the similarities and differences in Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism; strives to interpret the content of the contradictions and how to reconcile, so that Confucianism、Buddhism and Taoism can form an organic part of Chinese traditional culture ultimately.This paper with five parts, which mainly based on the dial/ogue in "MouZi Li Huo Lun", reflect its Buddhist thought to discuss the differences, similarities and characteristics in Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism. Chapter1, as the basis of the full text, which is mainly a study between MouZi and his book, discusses the attitudes and perspectives about academic scholars towards the authenticity issue of "MouZi Li Huo Lun", then, introduces the background and main content of "MouZi Li Huo Lun". Chapter2, which is a research on Buddhist thought of "MouZi Li Huo Lun", mainly studies MouZi’s outlook and theory, introduces how MouZi explains the original and Buddha’s image, to understand the concepts related to Buddha. And it compares the intrinsic link between MouZi’s views on Buddha, early Buddhist teachings. Chapter3is a research on Buddhist outlook on life, mainly discusses the karma, immortal soul and Buddhist practice concept. Chapter4is a research on the relationship among "MouZi Li Huo Lun", Confucianism and Taoism. It separately discusses the relationship between "MouZi"and Confucianism culture, such as, the relationship between Buddhism and Confucian sages view, the relationship between Buddhism and Confucian’s views of RenXiao and so on. Besides, the relationship between "MouZi" and Taoism, such as MouZi introduces Taoism into Buddhism, advocates the theory of Taoism, and criticizes original Taoism. Chapter5is the meanings of "MouZi" and the influence to the relationship in Buddhism, Confucianism and Taoism later ages. It mainly summarizes the historical significance and later influence of "MouZi", which focuses on effects that "MouZi" has worked on the fusion of Confucianism and Buddhism, the dispute of Buddhism and Taoism, and WeiJin metaphysics.
