The Translation Practice Report On Language Refinement In Non-literary Translation

December24th2012, a special day when the consolidation between DNV (Det Norske Veritas) and GL (Germanischer Lolyd) was officially approved, has ushered in a brand-new era where the updated DNV-GL plays the leading role in terms of the registered GDT (Gross Deadweight Tonnage) all over the world. In a background with an integration trend, it seems to be significantly paramount to maintain the exposure of the renewal of the standard for certification. Meanwhile, how well the translated version of the certification standard can be does exert a huge influence on the modification upon that of which back in China. In the same year, from October15th to24th, the EMSA (European Maritime Safety Agency) draws an inspection upon the training and certification systems for seafarers in Dalian Maritime University during which the author was assigned to translate some of the files that were submitted to the agency. In combination of the proofreading translation of the renewal DNV certification standard, the author tends to make an conclusive discussion about the non-literal translation featuring maritime purposes.In the light of the ’parallel text’ which came to be formed during the two translation practices, the author realized that language redundancy seems to be quite common in the maritime featured translation despite of the cultural differences between the two languages. Also, to make this report even more methodological, the author presented several particular methods that deal with the English connectives, category words in Chinese as well as the intensifiers in order to refine the language and eliminate the translationese in both English and Chinese translation.
