Bharati Mukherjee (1940-), is one of the most important female writers incontemporary English literature in India.,is one of the most typical diasporic writersand female writers. She is not only concerned about the immigrant’ life, but alsoexplores the liberation road of contemporary women actively. Mukherjee got manyachievements, and won many international awards. Mukherjiee’s creation material istaken from her own life, her writing has the feature of self-description, herheroines’life can be seen as Mukherjee’s growth experience, so her writing isautofictional. This paper analyses the immigrant images and female images inMukherjee’s literature, revealing the autofiction in her literature.It can help us tounderstand Mukherjee’s the view of immigration and the view of women.This paper consists of the introduction, the body and conclusion.The introduction carries on the simple introduction to Mukherjee, summarizes thepresent situation of Mukherjee studies both at home and abroadd, and points out themeaning and autofiction in MukherJee’s literature.The first chapter studies self-description feature in diasporic literature and femaleliterature, discuss the expression and meaning of self-description feature in diasporicwriting and female writing. The diaspora writers show the crisis of cultural identity ofimmigrants through self-description,thinking about the underlying reasons for thecrisis of cultural identity constantly. The female writers understand themselves andthe world through self-description, building the feminine words power. As a diasporawriter and a female writer, Bharati Mukherjee inherites self-description of diasporicwriting and female writing.The second chapter mainly presents self-description---autofiction---feature inBharati Mukherjee’s literature, analyses autofiction of her works respectively from thediasporic perspective and female perspective. As a diasporic writer,Mukherjee usesaffairs in her life as the material, reproduces her journey from India to Canada toAmerican,from a diasporas grows into a immigrant in a metaphorical way.As afemale writer,Mukherjee put herself into characters,comparing with Indian traditional women, understanding female value,shaping her own mature women’sview,expressing the efforts of contemporary women to pursue self-liberation.Mukherjee uses autofiction to put forward the ideal image of immigrant and woman.The third chapter discusses the significance meaning of autofiction inMukherjee’s literature. Mukherjee’s literature reflects her world view, view of life andvalue by autofition. Mukherjee communicates with self, others and the world bywriting,understanding ego and the world. At the same time, her writing represent thevoice of immigrant and female, her writing is a method to influence others and theworld. From immigration perspective, Mukherjee shows different cultural conflictand fusion of globalization, points out the possibility of East-West cultural harmony;from the female perspective, she mines the connotation of female value, points outthe importance of harmonious relations between the sexes, examines relations ofwomen’s self-construction and traditional culture and modern society.The conclusion focuses on the antofiction is not to be ignored in BharatiMukherjee’s literature. She uses self experience in her works, paying attention toimmigrants and women’s living state. This reflects Mukherjee ‘s cross-cultural writingconsciousness and independent and harmonious women’s view..
