In the process of translation, we often encounter these situations:to supplement the cultural default, to explain that the people or places’ names have been transliterated because there is no established version, etc. Supplementary instructions in some way are needed to explain to the readers. In many circumstances, annotation might be the most objective and clear way to make supplements, but it has its advantages and disadvantages, and it would not be accurate to discuss annotation in the translation process of all kinds of texts, so this essay tend to target on the annotation standard and method of certain kind of text. While translating academic essay Entertainment and Politics, I intend to research the issues of whether we should add notes, how to add them, and what are the alternatives in academic essays, so as to come to the conclusion of the annotation standard and methods of annotation in academic essays. Taking this translation practice as an example, I tried to conclude the following annotation standards:1. Adding footnote for proper nouns;2. Add annotation within the text when there are references;3. No annotation for common concepts closely related to the topic;4. Add illustrative annotations to make information more accurate. The annotation methods are:1. Simple and clear, no redundancy, focus on serving for further research;2. Be objective and reasonable, without ideology marks;3. Note clearly with unified style.
