Study On Paraphrasing Language Of Military Terms Of Chinese People’s Liberation ARMY (New Edition)

Military terms are normalized military language. Based on the study of object language and paraphrasing language in Military Terms of Chinese People s Liberation Army (New Edition)(hereafter referred to as New Military Terms), this thesis is aimed at a primary research on the development of military terms as well as paraphrasing characteristics of Military Terms through a combinative way of diachronic and synchronic study, together with comparative and statistical analysis, combine with the description and analysis, hoping to serve as theoretical reference to lexicography of Military Terms.There are four chapters. After introduction, Chapter2makes an analysis on the paraphrasing characteristics of New Military Terms from the perspective of meta-language theory. After screening, there are406high frequency words for paraphrasing, over70%of which are disyllabic verbs and nouns whose semantic distribution covers57secondary categories of11primary ones. The paraphrasing patterns in New Military Terms can be divided into definition and description with the former as majority. The main issues for paraphrasing are (1) inconformity of meaning classification;(2) contradiction of paraphrasing forms.Chapter3makes a contrastive study on the paraphrasing of the same-terms between New Military Terms and Modern Chinese Dictionary (The Sixth Edition). They can be distinguished from the scale, wording, pattern and content of paraphrasing. At last, it reduces the relation between military terms and national language terms to (1) militarization of national language terms;(2) generalization of military terms. They could be mutually transformational under a certain condition and also supplement each other.Chapter4launched a diachronic study on military terms and paraphrasing language by revealing its development in two aspects (1) four ways for the emergence of military terms;(2) three manifestations of military terms’change. In addition, this thesis analyzes the advance of military terms under the conditions of progress of language, the lexicography of Military Terms has scored fruitful achievements, but its informationization level has yet to be further enhanced.
