The Study Of Huang Jin’s Social Relationship Network

Huang Jin is a great master of literary composition in the middle time of Yuan Dynasty. As a successful official in his time, Huang Jin’s social network has great potential to develop and study. While till now, the study of Huang Jin focus on his poetry and essay, thought and political psychology, has no systematic study in the area of his social network. Thus, this thesis is divided into two parts by the boundary of Huang Jin’s engaging in politics. The social network of those succeeded in entering the official career in the regions south of the Yangzi River in the middle of Yuan Dynasty is studied from the changes, content, forming ways and the characteristics of Huang Jin’s social network.The first part of this thesis is the study of Huang Jin’s social network before he engaged in politics, focusing on the specific analysis of figures and the relationship between them with Huang Jin and investigating the changes and characteristics on this foundation. The second part is the study of Huang Jin’s social network after his entering the official career with the data analysis, in this way we can analyze the changes, content, forming ways and characteristics in every stage in the whole.The first part is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is about Huang Jin’s lifetime before he engaged in politics and has been parted into four different stages—receiving education in Wuzhou, travelling and receiving education in Hangzhou, securing official positions in Hangzhou, Nanjing and Dadu, getting official position for his Confucianism and imperial Competitive Examination, in which I have given a detailed illustration on the figures associated with Huang Jin. The second chapter is the analysis of the changes in Huang Jin’s social network on the foundation of first chapter. The third chapter is the characteristics of his social network and summarize in the four factors—regional factor, master factor, family factor and the acquaintances in the imperial examination.The second part is divided into two chapters. The fourth chapter describes the social network of Huang Jin from the third year of Yan You when he was assumed as the asstistant of country magistrate, till to the17th year of Zhi Zheng when he died. Owing to his official position varied with time went, the44years after he entered the official career can be parted into seven different stage—sinking into the position in country and city, entering the court for the first time, being in mourning for his father, entering the court for the second time, hold the position of the highest instructor in Jiangsu and Zhejiang, entering the court for the third time, resigning and spending his remaining years till death in his hometown. From the sheet in this chapter, I learned that the figures Huang Jin associated with are governmental officials, educational officials, Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists and so on, and I make a concrete statistics from the point of time, native place and status.The fifth chapter is parted into five sections. The first section is a statistical table about the changes of Huang Jin’s social network, which shows the development and changes of his social network after he entered the political careers vividly. The second section is the concrete description and analysis of the table in the previous section. The third section is the content of his social network, the figures associated with Huang Jin are governmental officials, educational officials, Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists, among which, governmental officials occupies the most, Confucians second, Buddhist and Taoists third and educational officials the last. The fourth section is about the characteristic of his social network and it presents local, wide-ranging, continuing and essential characteristics. The fifth section is about the forming ways of his social network, which are made up of writing essays, joining in socially useful activities, gathering together and writing poems and official business.
