Abstract/Summary:
Rumination is a cognition process strategy defined as thoughts and behaviors that focus an individual’s attention on his or her emotional state, inhibit any actions that might distract the individual from his or her negative mood, and inhibit action to correct identified problems. Finally, lead to depression.Nolen-Hoeksema defined rumination as the cognitive vulnerability to depression, she held a lot of influential researches that proposed that rumination exacerbate and maintain dysphoria, Ultimately leading to the onset of a depressive episode. recent studies play important on the effects of rumination, provided that rumination functions as a catalyst of cognition. Specifically the synergistic effects between negative cognition content and rumination. The current study want to test the effects of these two factors on depressive mood, and explore the catalyst model of rumination.Studyl want to finish the effects of rumination induced by experimental and negative cognition content on depressive mood. random assigned participants to either ruminate or distract following a sad mood induction. this study found rumination was more strongly associated with depressive mood among individuals who report high levels of negative cognition.Study2provided that trait rumination is happened naturally, this study explore the effects of trait rumination and negative cognition content on depressive mood. across a no-task delay period following a sad mood induction, found that rumination and negative cognition content interact to predict changes in depressive mood. Conclusion: These studies provided support for a catalyst model of rumination in which rumination amplifies the deleterious effects of negative cognition.
