| The prosperity of tourism industry makes the intercultural communication among people from different countries more and more frequent. Guide-interpreting, as a main form of intercultural communication, is interpreting to provide information concerning travel for foreign tourists. However, cultural diversities make intercultural communicative barriers inevitable in guide-interpreting. And these barriers impede the fluency of guide-interpreting.This essay aims to analyze the practice of overcoming intercultural communicative barriers in guide-interpreting from the perspective of Skopos theory. As a branch of interpreting, guide-interpreting bears the general characteristics of interpreting, besides, it has its own features: being tourist-oriented, being informative and attractive and being culture-loaded. And these features are closely connected with the Skopos theory. In this intercultural communication, differences in language, value system, thinking patterns and belief can bring about intercultural communication barriers, and the main specifications of these barriers can be classified into three types:differences in expressing patterns, cultural imagery vacancy and cultural imagery discrepancy. Analyzing from the perspective of the Skopos theory, this thesis puts forward paraphrasing, amplification and cultural imagery substitution as the main strategies for overcoming different specifications of intercultural communication barriers so as to meet the tourists’demands. |
